Most cities that have great, locally-roasted coffee also have great, locally-brewed beer. Here in Louisville we are lucky to have both, and we’re excited to once again work with the Bluegrass Brewing Company on not one, but 2 coffee stouts!
The first is the BBC Heine Brothers’ Coffee Stout – An oatmeal stout brewed with English roasted barley and caramunich malt to impart a roasty and slightly sweet malt flavor. The addition of flaked oats lends creaminess and body. The Heine Brothers’ specially roasted, organic, Mexican coffee is added in two doses; a ration is stirred into the hot unfermented beer to extract coffee flavor, then freshly brewed coffee is also added after fermentation is complete, to impart fresh coffee flavor and aroma.
The second is the BBC Heine Brothers’ Bourbon Barrel Coffee Stout – the same coffee stout as above, but aged in bourbon barrels.
This Saturday, BBC – St Matthews will be rolling out both coffee stouts at their 20th anniversary celebration – and the 3rd annual Dogtoberfest, starting at 11am. This fundraiser for Saving Sunny and The Kentucky Humane Society will be a fun-filled day with food, brews, music, and you can bring your dog along too!
