Here at Heine Brothers’, we love to support local artists. Over the years, we have created relationships with many – from the rotating art shows that happen at HB-Douglass Loop, to the local cd’s that we sell from musical artists like Appalatin and Ben Sollee, to handmade mugs created by local artists available in our shops.
These one-of-a-kind handmade mugs are available now at your neighborhood Heine Brothers’ for $20 each.
Thanks for voting Heine Brothers’ as Louisville’s Best Coffee Shop and the Best Place to pick up a LEO in this year’s LEO Readers’ Choice Awards! Roasting & serving excellent coffee with great customer service is what we do best, and we’re honored to receive your recognition. Louisville is such a amazing city with many great locally-owned options (the top 3 in the Best Coffee Shop category are all local!) and we’re proud to call it home. Thanks!
We have teamed with IdeaFestival University on a new event!
Seed to Cup: Understanding Coffee
Join IF University and Heine Brothers’ Coffee for a journey to coffee’s origin without leaving Louisville. This interactive class will begin with an overview of the coffee landscape and supply chain that is invisible to most coffee drinkers and enthusiasts. As part of this class, participants will join in a formal coffee cupping led by Heine Brothers’ Roast Master, Alec Risch.
What is the best tasting cup? How are beans blended to achieve a distinctive flavor?
After deliberating on the process of making coffee, class participants will engage in a series of cupping and roasting activities to produce an IdeaFestival Blend available at Heine Brothers’ Coffee retail locations throughout Louisville. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to create coffee worthy of the IdeaFestival label.
Facilitators: Mike Mays, Founder of Heine Brothers’ Coffee and founding Member of Cooperative Coffees, will share his stories of 19 years traveling to origin and how the coffee landscape has morphed to where it is today.
Alec Risch, Heine Brothers’ Roast-master, will lead the group in a cupping and coffee discussion to identify the properties most desirable in the IF Blend.
Important Note: Participants are asked to arrive at 9:15 a.m. Each participant will take home a 12.oz bag of coffee they cupped and roasted that day.
UPDATE: Due to upcoming thunderstorms this evening, LOUISVILLE LOVES MOUNTAINS has been moved to THE GREEN BUILDING at 732 E. Market Street! Be there!
Kentuckians For The Commonwealth, Heine Brothers’ Coffee,
and Carmichael’s Bookstore to host 5th Annual Festival to benefit
Kentucky Mountain Communities
Louisville Loves Mountains Festival will be held May 17th
on Longest Ave at Bardstown Road from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
An impressive list of local artists and musicians are teaming up with Heine Brothers’ Coffee and
Carmichael’s Bookstore and the social justice group Kentuckians For The Commonwealth for an
evening to celebrate Kentucky’s mountain beauty and heritage.
The fifth annual Louisville Loves Mountains Festival will be held Friday evening, May 17th
from 4–10 p.m. A section of Longest Avenue at Bardstown Road – adjacent to Heine Brothers
and Carmichael’s stores – will be blocked off to create an outdoor space for the festivities. In the
event of rain the festivities will be moved to The Green Building at 732 East Market Street.
The music lineup includes Troubadours of Divine Bliss, Potluck Ramblers, Hog Operation, River
City Pipe Drummers, Beady, Slow Charleston, and an outdoor dance party with Hay DJ.
The event will feature educational booths on issues affecting Appalachia with a focus on the
impacts of mountain top removal mining.
The festival celebrates the unique natural beauty and ecological importance of Kentucky’s
Appalachian Mountains and mountain communities. The headwaters of three major rivers that
feed into the Ohio River are in eastern Kentucky, and its forests are among the most diverse
hardwood forest in North America.
The region also is the source of coal that is burned locally to generate electricity, creating a major
source of Louisville air pollution. Some of that coal is mined using mountaintop removal, a
highly destructive form of mining that Kentuckians For The Commonwealth is working to end.
Proceeds from the festival will support these efforts and efforts to explore new economic
opportunities for the region.
The festival is free and open to the public. There will be local food, beer, activities, and music.
All participating vendors are donating a percentage of their sales to Kentuckians for the
Commonwealth and their work to end mountain top removal mining and Appalachian transition.
KFTC is a 31-year-old non-partisan, member-run social justice organization working to ensure
the voices of Kentuckians are heard and respected in our democracy. Call 502-589-3188 for
We look forward to seeing you there!
